Video Game Fables Nightmare Arena DLC Review
If you are a big fan of the turn-based RPG Video Game Fables, there is new DLC available called Nightmare Arena. The heroes from the base game (Aru, Tator, and Nate) are back to take on more challenges in this new battle DLC. When you speak to the Innkeeper, you learn his hobby is making Dream Candy. This special treat takes you to a "real" dream world known as the Nightmare Dimension. The team decides to try out this confection to experience this new place.
Upon arriving, the group is greeted by The Concierge; he welcomes you to this new world. He informs you that he has chosen his current form as humans would not be able to comprehend his "true" form. Anytime you want to leave this dimension, you can; go lay in the bed to be taken back to your own world.
The Concierge thinks these heroes would be the type of people that would enjoy a bit of combat. It turns out the residents of the Nightmare Dimension are bored, and to pass the time, they watch fights. They even have their own battle arena to host these brawls. The character Scream Screen — who looks like a giant TV — will scan you to find enemies you have faced in battle before. Then to make them scarier, he will apply spooky data filters to them. He will also restrict the amount of XP you can use while fighting to make it more exciting and challenging.
There are five levels of cups increasing in difficulty to compete in. When you start, only the Basic Cup is unlocked to challenge. You must complete all the challenges in that cup to advance to the next one. At first, there is only one battle listed to fight in, but as you win, there will be more. Before fighting, you are given time to change your weapons and attacks if you wish. Once prepared, walk into the glowing box to be taken to the arena.
There are 40 super challenging battles awaiting you, with a familiar face acting as a super boss at the end. While playing, you will unlock cool summoning spells where you have dragons and pumpkins deal damage to all your enemies during the fight. Along with the DLC, there is an update to the base Video Game Fables game; you can now collect enemy stickers that you can place on pages in your sticker book. You won't need to purchase the DLC to use stickers, but it will be required to get stickers of the nightmare enemies.
If you are a fan of Video Game Fables and enjoy the turn-based battle system, this DLC is worth checking out.
Video Game Fables (Reviewed on Windows)
This game is good, with a few negatives.
Video Game Fables Nightmare Arena DLC is a fun addition to the base game, especially the inclusion of stickers. If you don't enjoy the turn-based battle system of the original game, this DLC will not interest you.
