Stardust Galaxy Warriors Review
Stardust Galaxy Warriors is one of the many shoot ‘em up videogames you can find on the Steam platform. What made me want to play this game? Because it’s a very unique combination of four player arcade gameplay and small RPG elements prepacked with a Gundam style wrapping paper.
When you start this game you have the basic options you mostly find in Shoot ‘em up games like, Campaign, Trail Mode, Boss Run but more about that later. What makes this game very cool is that you have four different mechs to choose, all of them have their own special attacks that can give you a small advance in the battle field over time. Like a Rocket Strike or an extra shield. Beside the four mechs and their specials you have a big stock of weapons you can choose from when gearing up for the battle. Every mech has a primary and secondary weapons system you can swap between missions. For example you can choose from a flamethrower, rail gun, shotgun, mini gun, heat seeking rockets and much more.
The core gameplay is like every shoot ‘em up videogame out there. You play through stage after stage getting the highest score and try to survive all the enemies that are trying to destroy you. Every stage has been divided into three parts and between each stage you will get a quick upgrade. At the end of the levels you confront a stage boss. When you have defeated the stage boss you will meet a small robot that will award you the option of buying some upgrades that are randomly picked by the game.
You will use your points as money so how well you play determines how many Upgrades you can buy.
There are many upgrades to buy and many points you can upgrade in this game, still you can not compare it to a skill tree like in RPGs this has more basic upgrades like, More Shield, More Health, More Attack Damage, Longer Duration of Special Powers and so on and on.
One of the small things I always look for in a game is how good the original soundtrack is.
This games gives me a really big surprise because of the totally custom and different background music it has. From dubstep, dance, rock and little bit of metal you can find in this awesome playlist. So even at this part of the game the creators did a really good job.
Why look at the soundtrack? Because music will make the game complete or just give the game soul.
Campaign is one of my favorite parts of the game because of the small story line that they tweaked within the long arcade gameplay. Story mode will be explained with some text between battles to give the player the idea of what is going on in the game but don’t expect much from this.
When you complete the game there is still plenty of stuff to do. If you like to test how good you are at a stage and want to set a new record online the survival mode is really an awesome feature that takes the game and the specific stage to a new level because every round gets harder and harder to defeat.
And so overall there are so many thing you can do in this game beside the RPG elements and all the options you can choose from this still remains an oldschool arcade shoot ‘em up videogame.
In most similar games like Gradius and R-Type you have special power ups that will give you more firepower after every upgrade you pick up, however not in this game. This game only provides you with a small boost pickup for a limited time, like an instant power boost of your special attack or triple fire. So you will need to buy many upgrades to make it to the last stages and try to defeat the true final boss.
Trying not to upgrade and defeat all the enemies can be a big challenge so I upgraded to keep it as easygoing game for me. There are upgrades so why not used them I guess.Beside all these upgrades and many weapons you can use. You are a robot so yes melee action is even possible in this game. Every machine will have two weapons also two melee attacks you can use and sometimes it works much better than shooting bullets at your enemies. And even slice and dice your way throughout the battlefield.
This game is great, with minimal or no negatives.
Stardust Galaxy Warriors is a 4 player mech style local arcade shoot ‘em up with RPG elements.
