Sonic Classic Collection Review

Some Classics never get old and Sonic is one of them. It doesn't matter how many games get released, the original Sonic will always have a special place in my heart. The graphics don't look dated, the game play is still immense and it never gets old. But I will step away from my fan boy view of Sonic long enough to see if the latest release on the DS is worth the money or not.
With this game you get to have all of the original Sonic games on one portable cartridge.

The games that are included are:

• Sonic 1
• Sonic 2
• Sonic 3
• Sonic and Knuckles

You also get to play through Sonic 2 and 3 as Knuckles if you prefer, which doesn't really add anything to the game unless you like playing with Knuckles.
The graphics look the same though somewhat smaller on the top screen of the DS, however I wished they has used the bottom screen rather than the top screen, though this is just my own opinion. The classic sounds and music of all the old Sonic games are there which I love and I have missed dearly.

As well as having all these classic games, there are also some illustrations on the DS cartridge which you can have a browse through that include original artwork for the games. While this is nice to look through there really isn't much else to do with it.

The games are played as you would with any Gameboy Advanced game on your DS, the top screen is where the game is played and the bottom screen is for the in-game menu which features the save and load function, this is new to the game. When using this though I have found some problems, the fact that it will only save you at the beginning of the level not anywhere in-between can be quiet annoying if you have been through a lot of check points or got past a particularly difficult area.

 They have also added a pause button that will allow you to pause the game, as well as a quit buttons that will take you back to the main screen and allow you to pick a different game. As well as these, there is also a mini blurb which tells you what the game was about and also a controller button that allows you to review the keys. A nice feature of the bottom screen is that it will also dim after a time of playing which means it won't be in your face all the time.

So is the pack really worth the money? Well if you already own the games on other consoles such as the Xbox 360 and you don't think you will be ever want to play Sonic in a portable fashion then no it isn't. However, I feel this pack will be in my DS travelling pack for a long time, even though the save feature isn't exactly what I wanted it to be, it is nice that you can actually save at the beginning of a level. So for me, and I am sure for other fans of the series that still want to play Sonic, it is worth the money.
