RoboSync Review
RoboSync is a logic and timing-based puzzle game developed by Giant Warrior Studio. In this game, you must work together with other robots to unlock the exit. Sounds simple? Well, don't let that previous sentence fool you. So let’s check it out and see if it syncs or swims.
Let’s start off with the presentation. It has some really good pixel art and makes everything clear and easy to understand. It can be subtle in helping you solve the level, from arrows and rulers to even the lines between panels, you are at least given some help in your timing as you get to grips with how RoboSync works. And I really like the music here. Although it would be nice to have a beat that could also help with timing, the soundtrack here is really good and fits the overall setting of the game.
Onto the gameplay. Your main controls are… moving and pressing buttons. That’s it. No other buttons are required as your player character is typically at the bottom of the stage. This is the first time since the days of Flash that I’ve mainly used my arrow keys to control a game. However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have complexity, as you must have all the other robots in the level synchronise with each other in such a way that they press all the buttons at the same time to unlock the exit.
This is not easy at all, as you will need to sync up several robots all at the same time, while also positioning yourself so that you can activate what you need in sequence without messing up. And that’s mentioning all the mechanics that are slowly introduced to you over 40 levels. You’ve got gates, manual doors, moving platforms, and a whole lot of other elements to make your puzzle a little more puzzling. These levels can really make you sit there and stare at the movements of the robots for a good few minutes as you figure out the chain of events needed to complete the level. Solving them often leaves feelings of satisfaction, especially when you manage to perfectly synchronise every robot.
Speaking of perfect synchronisation, to completely perfect the level, not only do you have to beat it under a certain time, but all robots must be totally in sync. It’s definitely a real encouragement even if you aren’t going for 100% completion. This really makes you want to replay levels and try to do the best you can… and you probably have to, as even pausing to think, you can probably beat the game in under two or three hours.
I do have a gripe here in that it doesn’t really go far enough with its concept. Yeah, the puzzles are nice but it could go further than this. Give me different robots that have different mechanics like mirroring my movements or something.
Overall, RoboSync is a nice time. The puzzles are good and satisfying solutions and you will rarely get irritated in its short playtime, but it doesn’t do quite enough with its idea. Still, you can’t deny its charm and challenge.
RoboSync (Reviewed on Windows)
This game is great, with minimal or no negatives.
RoboSync is a really charming puzzle with great solutions that will satisfy once executed perfectly. It’s a short time, and there’s a feeling that it could’ve expanded its scope a little, but you can’t deny its charm and challenge.
