Office Fight Review
Don’t you just hate working yourself figuratively to death? Well, Office Fight takes it literally, because you begin the game by dying at work. But death is only the beginning of the end… for your managers at Mega Corp, because a helpful ghost wants to aid you in getting your revenge — but how do you take down an entire company as an ethereal spirit?
This physics-based puzzle game is split into levels across 10 sections of the business such as Sales and Customer Service. Each level has certain items that you can throw, and you can do so three times, setting things up to get as high a score as possible. The aim is to upset the employees and make them fight and break stuff, and ultimately quit, but in the process cost Mega Corp some mega bucks. Some levels have hazards which can help you cause mayhem, such as vending machines that will fire cans, overheating machines that will explode, or portals to send things/people across the level.
You can unlock powers or bonuses by obtaining stars, which means that you need to maximise your score in each level. Headshots with throw items, using portals, spinning things with white boards… it all increases your score, but once all of the employees are knocked out (or hilariously off the side of levels) the level will end, so use all three of your throws!
Some levels are a bit different, as horde rooms have an entrance, an exit, and a bunch of things to stop employees from getting between them. Handily, they will have at least one thing that won’t break when you throw it, so you can chuck it over and over again.
Office Fight isn’t all just chucking plants at fridges, though, as at the end of each floor is a manager to fight! Luckily, your ghost buddy will take one for the team and let you possess them in order to battle the boss by slamming into them repeatedly. The ghost can take a few hits, but most bosses require you to take out their shield first before you can deal actual damage. Still, as challenging as some of them are, it’s not going to take long to learn their pattern and beat them down. Then, you get to look at their office, raid their drawers, hack their computer, and check their “Smack” chats and emails. The computer hacking mini-game is quite a good brain teaser, and while it’s optional, you do learn more about what Mega Corp is doing…
Occasionally, levels will have coins in them, which need something to hit them in order to be collected. These are used to unlock costumes and takedowns — those are random events that one employee might pull on another to knock them out immediately, rather than have them join the fight.
Maybe you want to see your coworkers or friends beaten up? Well, Office Fight has a Creator Mode, where you can customise characters, create levels, and test takedowns. Anime takedowns against your cartoon-hating partner can be satisfying, is all I’m saying.
The game looks nice, the sound effects are good (and often homemade), and the gameplay is definitely “one more go”. My only issue with the game is how levels will end and then you’ll see the main menu before it moves on to the next one. It’s a minor issue, but it either increases loading times, or the screen that should be there is missing.
While Office Fight might only last you a few hours if you rush through it, you can also spend much longer on the character and level creators, and trying to get three stars on every level. It’s a fun game that I’m glad I played.
Office Fight (Reviewed on Windows)
This game is great, with minimal or no negatives.
Office Fight is fun, funny, and well worth a look if you get a kick out of causing an explosion which sends someone flying out through a window and off of the level.
