Metropolis: Lux Obscura Review

It’s raining in the big city. Raining and dark. Crime is rampant, the cops are corrupt and Elvis has been stabbing people with his guitar. There’s only one way to protect yourself, and that’s violently. Your hands and boots are good, but if you want to live you’d better match more than three.

And so we enter Metropolis: Lux Obscura, in the shoes of Jon Lockhart, recent guest of the local prison system. He returns to town eager to resume what he had with Goldie, his stripper girlfriend, though she doesn’t appear to be working there anymore. So, to pass the time and make some money, he falls in with the local crime boss Falcone.

What follows is a story of intrigue, fights and boobs. Oh, yeah, this game is available on Nutaku, and the Steam version has an X-rated patch, didn’t I mention that? There are boobs and a little sex, but they’re not the main focus of this match-3 puzzler, just window dressing on the way to one of the four endings.

Metropolis is quite a good match-3 game that has a challenge to it by not giving you any hints. So if you’re stuck, then you’d best look harder. There are attack tiles (punch, kick, taser), a heal tile, a power-up tile, a power-down tile and the cop tiles which deal damage to you. The bad guys that you beat up let you have a certain amount of moves before they deal a set amount of damage to you. Sometimes it’s three, other times it’s one, and the only way to stop them from killing you easily is by connecting the power-down tiles. I’ll be honest, though, they didn’t really seem to do much for me.

Once you get the hang of things, it’s pretty easy to beat the game. Since there are multiple endings you’ll probably want to give it a few goes, but it won’t take you very long before you’ve seen everything the game has to offer.

The graphics seem to be inspired by the Sin City series of comics, with a neo-noir black and white look, highlighting certain things by putting them in colour. Everything is told in comic book style with full voice acting and a pretty decent soundtrack.

One thing I noticed was that the voice acting didn’t always fit the speech bubbles, which was a little weird. Like the actors ad-libbed the lines because they didn’t sound correct when read aloud. Apart from that, I didn’t find any issues with the game.

If you’re in the mood for a match-3 game that you can finish in a day, and features boobs and graphic sex scenes, then Metropolis is definitely one to check out. I’m a fan of match-3 and breasts, so I enjoyed my time with it. It costs about the same as a fancy coffee and lasts ages longer. And has naked ladies.
