Invincible Presents: Atom Eve Review

As someone with a casual interest in Invincible  — I read one volume of the comic, and I will one day watch the Amazon Prime series — I wanted to check out Invincible Presents: Atom Eve.

Why did I want to check out Invincible Presents: Atom Eve? Well, I wanted to see if this would hold up for anyone who hasn’t seen the TV series. And, I’m going to start this review with a resounding yes, as my knowledge extends to barely remembering the first volume from back in the day. Plus, it leans into its graphic novel art style well, and I’m a sucker for all games that I can read.

I was pleased that the graphic novel elements weren’t just for show. Invincible Presents: Atom Eve is essentially like you’re reading a graphic novel. The game takes place over ten episodes, following an episodic structure, and even a little villain of the week to partake in some strategic turn-based battles.

With each turn, you’ll be able to analyse what your enemy will do next based on a symbol next to their HP bar. In your own corner, you’ll find your HP and your energy bar, which will identify just which attacks you’ll be able to choose from at the bottom of your screen. You can unlock more attacks and abilities from your Skill Tree, and I found this would happen after a few fights here and there.

Overall, it’s a nice and short game that focuses on Atom Eve, and her story that takes place during her time at high school with Mark Grayson — Invincible himself. It explores her relationship with her boyfriend, Rex, and the difficult relationship she has with her parents, who appear to favour Rex over her. Not going into detail, but, it’s a pretty sucky situation for Eve.

As she struggles with the issues of having a secret identity, while dealing with the expectations of her parents, and insecurity of her boyfriend, Eve bonds with Mark and focuses on her life as a hero. While the gameplay is simple, and the narrative linear, I found that Invincible Presents: Atom Eve was a pretty compelling game. It was short and sweet, and you can easily play it all in one go. In fact, if you’ve never watched Invincible, it serves as a great ad for the show as I wanted to see more of the other characters.

Meeting the other characters, such as Mark, William, and Amber

Personally, I was already going to watch the series, but this has compelled me even more. If you enjoy superheroes or just want a short and sweet game to play, then this could be a great way to kill some time. The battles aren’t too difficult, but they can get a little bit repetitive after you’ve figured out your enemies’ patterns. But, once you find those out, the real fun comes from the story, and solving the mysteries that are eluding Eve throughout the narrative.

Invincible Presents: Atom Eve (Reviewed on Windows)

This game is great, with minimal or no negatives.

Invincible Presents: Atom Eve is a short and sweet game that may get repetitive, but is overall a fun one for newcomers and fans of Invincible. If you have a few hours, I recommend giving it a go.
