Endless Legend: Guardians DLC Review

Endless Legend: Guardians DLC Review

It’s finally here and it’s amazing, the first expansion pack for Endless Legend has finally arrived called Guardians. This expansion adds the intimidating units known as the Guardians; large, titan-like, monstrosities that are powerful and capable of bolstering your forces and leading you to victory. They are not the only addition to the game, the devs also added a myriad of brand new events, buildings, and assorted missions.

In total the DLC adds in five brand new units that are extremely powerful late game champions who can be built by any faction and have a high destruction capability. Four of these guardians correspond with the four elements: fire, water, earth, and air, while the fifth is the Dust Guardian. All five of the guardians are pretty awesome to use and make you feel like a god when you finally manage to summon one.

EL Guardian Earth

They all have their own strengths and weaknesses, however their main focus is strength, and boy oh boy are they strong. For example, Gios is the Earth guardian who is able to sense everything that moves across the map. He is capable of causing massive earthquakes that dish out a devastating amount of damage. Gios is also able to repair a city’s fortifications when the need arises. Neros is the Water Guardian who is capable of destroying enemy watchtowers and extractors while roaming the map. Much like Poseidon, he can use his tsunami ability to deal massive amounts of damage in relation to the distance from his target.Atmos is the Guardian of Air who is able to teleport anywhere his range of vision covers and grows stronger with every unit that he kills.

EL Guardian Water

These guardians are a solid addition to the game that adds a new element of strategy. You feel like a god amongst men when you control your guardian and destroying the enemy’s units and fortifications. Unfortunately the actual acquisition of these titan-like units is where the idea falls off a bit. It requires nothing more than farming up a bunch of resources and using a tile to summon your Guardian. While the creation of the Guardian feels extremely satisfying because you have to use an entire tile for them, it feels exceedingly tedious to actually get the needed resources for it. On occasion a natural guardian will also roam the map and you have the opportunity to subdue and control it, however even that part of the Guardians feels rather bland.

Guardians has added a few cooperative and competitive quests that you can play through with your friends. It also adds a series of global events that have the possibility of wreaking havoc across the map.

The DLC also adds in a new set of buildings that are huge! These legendary buildings boost several of your city’s attributes that allow you to surpass your enemy, if you are able to gather the costly resources to build them. Much to my disappointment they did not make any faction specific buildings for this DLC and the number of buildings is a little underwhelming.

Overall the Guardian DLC is quite pleasant to the eyes, and the Guardians do add a bit of flavor to the combat, however it still feels a little bit lacking. If Endless Legend could add a bit more player control to the combat between units I would say that the Guardians could become an enormous asset. For $10.99 CAD I can say that this DLC is worth the price as it will add some more variety. The sheer excitement you will feel at creating such a massive creature will definitely make you feel powerful, which more than makes up for the lack of creative control when it comes to commanding your units.

Endless Legend (Reviewed on Windows)

This game is great, with minimal or no negatives.

All in all a great addition to what is already a great game. Creating and controlling the Guardians makes you feel as if you are controlling a god. Well worth the price and I can definitely recommend this DLC.
