Body Pay Review
When you think of Body Pay, think of the type of gameplay that Guitar Hero gives you, but not the music choice or graphics. You’re a store clerk who scans things at a lightning pace (like Aldi but less German) and encounters four nameless ladies (you name them) who wind up paying you with their bodies. This 18+ game is set within a peculiar world where people can pay for things using an app that basically agrees that they will provide sex acts for goods.
At the heart of Body Pay are the four ladies — the housewife, the influencer, the gyaru girl, and the office worker — each distinct in appearance and personality. In a series of unconnected short stories, players bear witness to these girls' transformation into the protagonist's sexual toys. So long as you clear each level with the right number of points.
The gameplay resembles a typical day at the supermarket checkout line but with a twist. You have to press specific keys to scan products, amass combos, and initiate fever mode to increase their in-game currency. As you progress, the challenge escalates with the increase in keys and introduction of disruptive modifiers. It quickly feels repetitive due to lack of variance because you’re literally pressing Q, W, E and R (or just two or three of those, depending on the level), then clicking through the visual novel-style dialogue and sex scenes.
On the visual front, Body Pay has an anime aesthetic that suits the characters, and the backdrops are partially created using AI. While the backgrounds are blurred to make the rest stand out more, the character designs lend an enticing allure, especially during the game's sex scenes. The items which pass through the checkout (such as hundreds of loaves of bread or dozens of battery packs) look just fine, though I would have thought that more care would have gone into them since you’ll be seeing the same 16 objects over and over.
The game's sound design is a mixed bag. The single piece of background music, though fine, can be monotonous, and so can the sound effects. The highlight is the voice acting of the girls during gameplay and adult scenes, which really helps give them some personality.
In terms of the adult content, Body Pay has some decent scenes, though the themes won’t be for everyone given the fact that there are 24 of them. Though eight of them are just still images, the rest are animated pretty well. Despite some potential turn-offs for some, Body Pay manages to deliver an entertaining experience. Its unique concept and alluring graphics provide enough material to satisfy fans of adult games who want more than visual novels and RPG Maker games. However, its repetitive nature and lack of depth suggest it might be best bought during a sale.
With four unique girls and their own paths, attractive anime-style graphics (despite the use of edited AI), a decent number of sex-scene variations, and Japanese voice acting, there's some merit in Body Pay. However, its otherwise generic and typo-ridden narrative, repetitive gameplay, and the absence of interactive erotic elements hold it back from its full potential. In the end, Body Pay is an intriguing offering in the 18+ gaming landscape, best sampled by those open to unique experiences who don’t mind hitting the same four buttons over and over for a couple of hours.
Body Pay (Reviewed on Windows)
The game is average, with an even mix of positives and negatives.
A repetitive game with some decent adult scenes.
