Pilo and the Holobook Preview

Pilo and the Holobook is a game developed by Mudita Games and published by RedDeer.Games. This colourful adventure allows us to set off to explore a galaxy as Pilo and record all sorts of objects in our book so we can collect stickers and prove to the council that we went to space... or, at least, that was the original plan, anyway! It turns out that there's a mysterious and dark force known as Tar, and he'll have to uncover the story behind it.

I'm going to be painfully honest here — I'm really stupid sometimes, especially when I'm playing a game and recording it for the world to see. There's something about my brain that gets fried while others are watching me, so I got hard-stuck on the demo in the puzzles. Pilo and the Holobook doesn't do a whole lot of hand-holding; you have to find your way around and uncover the puzzles yourself, and I genuinely appreciate that greatly! It's nice to have a game trust that I'll be able to figure out what to do, whether it's in five minutes or five hours. It takes me back to my childhood, where my mom and I would play games and get stuck for hours or days because there was no such thing as "just Googling it" back then.

Before I got stuck, though, I was having a blast! Pilo and the Holobook is a very charming title, from the animations and the ability to collect stickers (man, I LOVE stickers!!) to the dialogue. It feels like the type of game I'd play on PlayStation back in the day, something like Ratchet & Clank, except no platforming or shooting and a lot more puzzles.

Again, I didn't get to experience everything the demo has to offer, so I have no idea if we'll be able to do something with the stickers (I can only assume so) or what we'll be able to do if we fill the gauge past getting the planet's sticker, but I bet it'll be fun. I encourage anyone who likes adventure puzzle titles to check it out for themselves if the Steam Next Fest is up, as you're in for a wonderful time! And if you like what you see, don't forget to wishlist. Pilo and the Holobook's release date is yet to be announced, but let's hope it's soon!
