Let Them Come gamescom Preview

Let Them Come is a game about shooting aliens. Quite frankly, it's tempting to leave the preview there as that's the crux of the game, but you put the effort into clicking the headline, so I probably ought to make it worth your while.

The whole premise behind the game is incredibly simple, and one that probably isn't going to sound overly thrilling when written down, but bear with me here. You play as the unnamed hero who can't move from where he is because reasons. You're stuck on a spacecraft that is being swarmed by aliens and you have to save your stationary backside by killing them. Fortunately, you have a bloody huge gun with you and seemingly unlimited ammo.

The game is stylised as if it were an old CGA DOS title, including the health bar being your face getting beaten up like in Doom. It plays like those games of old as well. The order of the day here is to simply shoot and not think too much. As wave after wave of aliens comes for you, it's all about twitch reactions and killing them before they reach you.

Keeping up the retro vibe is a collection of mixtapes that you'll be picking up along the way, with a selection of super eighties tunes to play on your boom box and accompany the slaughter of alien scum.

I wasn't given a full release date but the game is coming to Steam in early 2017. It might not be one of the bigger releases of next year, but I'm quite looking forward to seeing it. If you fancy a game to relieve some tension, this might be one to watch.
