I Am Legion: Stand Survivors Preview
I Am Legion: Stand Survivors is an action roguelike bullet hell game where instead of facing off against waves of enemies on your own, you are building a stand of the most capable warriors you can find.
Since this title is a demo, we are limited in the selections available to us. First, you select which main character you want to control; they are the leader of the team, so if they run out of health, your run is over. There is only one character available to play in the demo, so you will be a buff dude named Muscle. Not necessarily my first choice, but incentive to get the full game as you can get the Swordsman, Goddess of the Moon, Vampire, and my personal favourite, Fortune Cat. As we are limited, you will be playing the stage called the Eternal Dungeon.
You begin with Muscle and one other fighter who will protect you from enemies by dashing and attacking the foes coming towards you. As you defeat foes, the bar on the bottom of the screen will fill; once full, you will gain a level. If you attack the green bell item, you can buy more characters to fight alongside you, like a blacksmith, samurai, machine gunner, wolf, and beauty. Your stand will have up to eight guys surrounding your team leader; any others you purchase go into reserve where they can be used to level up your main team members.
In the Eternal Dungeon, you will find chests containing gold and special items like anvils. Here the blacksmith will level up your primary and secondary stats. Upgrading this will increase things like max HP, physical and magic attack, armour, and HP Regen. Whereas secondary will improve attack speed, physical and magic penetration (I know what you are thinking…), and boss damage bonus. Once you have forged six items, you have the option to use the one-click synthesis to create an all-new item like a dagger that does +20 physical damage.
You aren't always stuck in the same room; you can pay 200 coins to unlock the door to get to a new area, and you also receive a blessing. Here you choose which power-up you want from three choices: bravery, which adds +20 to attack; gold panning, which improves the amount of gold that is dropped by four percent; and wisdom, which increases this stat by 20 points giving you improved magic power.
Once you have a full stand with eight fighters surrounding your main, you can power up the individual characters. To level up your stand, drag characters of the same type and star level from your reserve to the matching one in the formation. This will combine the two fighters improving their stats and their star rating.
I Am Legion has the survivors fighting off increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Your run will continue until the leader runs out of health and is defeated. When that happens, you are presented with a screen showing you the stats from this run, like how long you survived, what level you got to, how much gold was collected, and how many enemies were defeated.
At this point, you can quit, but we all know what you will choose to do; try again! This game is so addictive and fun, I can't wait for the full release so that everything in the game will be unlocked and available to try out. I Am Legion: Stand Survivors is a must-play title for fans of roguelike bullet hell games!
