Five Reasons NBA 2K16 is Everything a Basketball Fan Could Want

Five Reasons NBA 2K16 is Everything a Basketball Fan Could Want

While NBA 2K16 didn’t have a hands-on at gamescom, 2K gave a lengthy presentation highlighting the new features you can expect to see. Alot of the basketball jargon may go over the heads of the less informed, but NBA 2K16 strives to not only appeal to new audiences, but is heavily leaning towards attracting the hardcore. Here’s why.

Career & General Manager RPG

NBA 2K16 of course comes with a career mode, but this year it’s been bumped up a notch or two. Not only is it a rise through the ranks to NBA stardom, but the story itself will be directed by film director and NBA fan Spike Lee, who wrote and captured the cut-scenes alongside 2K. With the new edition of the face scanner, you can transfer your likeness into the game and save time fiddling with an infinite number of sliders. NBA 2K16 also boasts a General Manager Mode, which was described as a basketball RPG. Here, you do everything except take to the courts; manage the team, talk to the press or handle ticket prices, you have to work to ensure your team is not only the best on the court, but off the court too.

NBA 2KTV

Building on the success of the feature last year, NBA 2K16’s 2KTV will have weekly episodes, accessible through the game itself or with the companion app, available on tablets and phones following its release. 2KTV allows players to feel part of the wider community, having access to exclusive interviews with players and developers, all while being able to watch highlights, submitted by the community, of the week gone by.

Music

Basketball and hip-hop go together like wrestling and heavy metal; they’re a perfect match. With that in mind, 2K has collaborated with three world famous DJs and producers in order to create NBA 2K16’s soundtrack. DJ Mustard, DJ Khaled and DJ Premier all have created a unique in-game playlist as well as remixes that you won’t hear anywhere else. The music may be the last thing you think of when it comes to a sports game, but there’s no denying its importance in getting you into the right frame of mind, and the playlist for NBA 2K16 certainly has that intention.

Affiliations with Pros

Steph Curry, Anthony Davis and James Harden all grace the cover of this year’s iteration but not in the sense that occurs with other sports games. These aren’t players that have had a ‘few good seasons’--they’re all official First Team All-NBA members, essentially a dream team of basketball’s finest. If that’s not enough, there’s even a special edition of NBA 2K16 which features household name Michael Jordan. Not only is it a one off, limited edition cover, but it comes with Michael Jordan memorabilia such as posters and wall clings as well as Jordan apparel for your in-game character.

2K ProAm Mode

Playing the NBA 2K series online has always been difficult, whether it has been down to matchmaking, server issues or any number of hiccups that playing online throws up. With this year’s ProAm online mode, 2K is hoping to eradicate these problems. ProAm will quickly matchmake you against players of a similar skillset, allowing you to maximise your playing time. Aside from the improved connectivity, ProAm also allows you to get creative; choosing your five-man team, editing the kit and allowing you to design your very own court. Of course, you’ll play your home matches here and travel the globe visiting other people’s designs, complete with full matchday animation. Everything from logo, font, colour, and layout can be changed so don’t expect to see the same design twice anytime soon.

NBA 2K16 will be out on 29th September for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
