Games publisher Zynga have added Bitcoin as a payment method for some of their flagship titles. According to a post on Reddit the decision was made for the following reason:
In response to Bitcoin's rise in popularity around the world, Zynga, with help from BitPay, is testing expanded payment options for players to make in-game purchases using Bitcoin.
Players can only use Bitcoins through Zynga.com. The titles supported are FarmVille 2, CastleVille, ChefVille, CoasterVille, Hidden Chronicles, Hidden Shadows and CityVille. These games are some of Zynga's most popular.
Bitcoin is an an open-source, peer-to-peer substitute for real-world currency that has achieved impressive fame in recent months. Zynga's adoption of the currency bumped its value up to $1,093 per coin, although it has since dropped back down to $955.60 and is still falling. The current value still remains around $50 higher per coin that it was before the announcement.
