Yakuza Kiwami is Available Now on Xbox Game Pass

2016’s remake of the original PlayStation 2 Yakuza title, Yakuza Kiwami, is available to download now on Xbox Game Pass.

Set 17 years after the events of prequel story Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami yet again puts players in the shoes of Kazuma Kiryu. This time however, Kiryu finds himself in a much more precarious and unfamiliar situation, as he spends 10 years behind bars after taking the blame for a murder his childhood friend Nishikiyama commited. Once he finally returns to the streets of Kamurocho after his lengthy incarceration, he soon finds out that the Tojo Clan he was once a part of has been sent into disarray over a stolen 10 billion yen, and so Kiryu takes it upon himself to get to the bottom of the conspiracy before the clan collapses in on itself.

Kiwami features several improvements and changes to the original game, including updated visuals; an overhauled battle system; and the comical “Majima Everywhere” sidequest, where Kiryu has to face-off against his rival Majima in increasingly absurd scenarios in order to unlock new moves and techniques.

The title received generally positive reviews, with many outlets not only commending its alterations from the original, but praising it as a worthy successor to Yakuza 0. Our 8.5/10 review for the game states:

“Other than the control scheme being a bit dated, Yakuza Kiwami comes together as a solid remake of the original title.”
