Xbox Series X|S - FPS Boost Explained
Microsoft has just announced its first wave of FPS Boost-compatible games in a recent Xbox Wire blog post. They are Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Sniper Elite 4, UFC 4 and Watch Dogs 2. Are you unsure of what exactly that means for the five titles? Let us explain.
Thanks to the increased power of Microsoft's two latest Xbox systems, especially the Series X, the company has been able to apply significant framerate improvements to select titles without any additional work on the part of their original developers (beyond their permission and guidance, of course).
FPS Boost can be activated for any compatible game, of which there will be more in the future, by entering the "Manage Game" menu in the Xbox game library and selecting the new “Compatibility Options” button. Whenever a game is running in FPS Boost mode, an indicator will display on the in-game overlay (accessed by pressing the Xbox button on the controller).
FPS Boost, Microsoft reports, can double or quadruple the framerate of some games. In this first wave of improvements, the company highlights New Super Lucky’s Tale as a particular accomplishment. The game reaches 120 frames per second with FPS Boost; at one time, it was capped at 30 frames per second.
Microsoft states that this first wave of games is "just the beginning". It plans to release more FPS Boost updates for games soon.
