Xbox One Slim Might be on It's Way
Most of us has seen Microsoft's Xbox One and know it is not exactly the smallest console, especially compared it's rival the PlayStation 4. With it's external power brick and wide body it the Xbox One doesn't exactly ooze with modern design when it almost looks like Betamax player (If you remember those).
We know over the course of the console generation they will get revisions and slimmer models but these usually don't happen till half-way or towards end of it's life cycle. But with the advances in processor technology we can see revisions released within months. And it looks like Microsoft wants to turn the tables on Sony.
An AMD design manager recently updated his LinkedIn profile, which revealed that they'd worked on a "cost-reduced" version of the Xbox One processor. Now, cost reduced doesn't mean less performance, it means same performance less cost to manufacturer and cooler to run. Just like the Xbox 360 Slim previously.
Xbox One Slim could well be on it's way and sooner than we think. With a smaller and cost effective processor, the system wouldn't have to be so large and be cheaper, making it more competitive to the PlayStation 4 already slim design that unless Sony launches their own.
While it could be sooner than we'd expect, don't expect it this year. It's almost Christmas and Microsoft would be foolish to launch a Slim model this year when they've certainly got plenty of stock of current model.
