Worms Rumble to Ditch the Series' Turn-Based Roots
It's been 25 years since the first Worms game released on the Amiga, and its developer, Team17, clearly felt that it was about time to change the series' familiar turn-based formula up with the newly-announced Worms Rumble. Set to release late 2020 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC, Worms Rumble will be the first mainline series entry to feature real-time combat in addition to 32-player cross-platform play. Take a look at the chaotic action in the reveal trailer above.
As a multiplayer title launching in this era of gaming, Worms Rumble will be subject to ongoing content updates, bringing maps, customisation options, gameplay modes and more to the title's existing offerings. The community really is a focus this time around: daily challenges, community challenges and seasonal events will keep players engaged and active. Plus, new gameplay modes and weapons will be open for experimentation in the trial zone Team17 refers to as 'The Lab'.
It's a serious shake-up for the series, and one that we hope will bring the 25-year old series back into the limelight.
