Wondering How Combat Will Be in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii? We've Got the Details!
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is the latest entry to the beloved franchise, and players will follow this ex-yakuza member on his new adventure as a modern-day pirate. We have more details on how the combat will look now, so let's get right to it!
Starting off, the narrative takes place after Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and players will watch the story unravel as Goro Majima attempts to recover his memory whilst forming his own pirate crew and conquering the open sea.
When it comes to fighting landlubbers, players will have two options of style: Mad Dog and Sea Dog. The former combines fists and kicks with vicious knife attacks, all which will fill up the Madness Gauge and eventually summon a group of shadow Majima dopplegangers. When it comes to the sidearms and Dark Instruments, they'll have the Cutlass, Boomerang, Pistol, and Chain Hook available, all to cause explosive destruction.
On the other hand, the Sea Dog style brings dual-wielding cutlasses, showy finishing moves, and slash combos that will help fill up the Madness Gauge. Once it's ready, players can call upon a variety of creatures to help them in battle; namely, there's a hungry shark, a massive ape, a jellyfish, and a bird. Don't let their species fool you, though — they bring deadly attacks with them!
The chaos continues in the vast open seas, too, as players will find themselves in perilous situations: sink or be sunk! While plundering islands and visiting lighthouses, enemies might attack, and it'll take dodging incoming enemy fire while bombarding back to see who comes out on top. Once the enemy is close enough, there's also the option of jumping to their ship and beating the rival pirate captain in a more mano-a-mano style! But it's not all thanks to Majima — he won't get far without a good crew. Strategically setting the members up, gathering a good synergy of abilities and traits, and working together is the road to victory.
Last but not least, players will be able to customise their ship to their liking, both cosmetically and for battle. Once everything is done, the Pirates' Coliseum in Madlantis awaits all, offering a variety of ship combat challenges.
If you feel like this might be a game you'd enjoy, keep an eye out for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii's release on the 20th of February 2025.
