Witchfire Gameplay Trailer Features Dark Magic Weapons

The Astronauts have released a new gameplay trailer for Witchfire, an upcoming dark fantasy first-person shooter from the creative leads behind Painkiller and Bulletstorm. The latest video unveils a peak at open-level combat, spotlighting the gunplay you’ll use to defeat dark terrors as you take on the role of an immortal witch hunter.

As you set out to hunt a powerful witch in Witchfire’s grimdark world you’ll be armed with a wide variety of guns and forbidden magic. Creative director Adrian Chmielarz breaks down what you need to know about the dark magic those weapons use — particularly the powerful firearm, Hunger. “This particular weapon is one for an eagle eyed hunter,” said Chmielarz. Hunger is a hand cannon that feeds on critical hits — the more critical hits the player scores, the deadlier their bullets will be after reloading. The video showcases three levels of Hunger’s dark power, including a final burst of freezing magic.

Though Hunger is the only weapon showcased in the two-minute trailer, Chmielarz reveals that all guns have powerful magic inside them, so players can expect an array of interesting weapons to use on their journey.

While there’s no official release date yet, Witchfire is on track for an Early Access release sometime in 2023 on PC via the Epic Games Store.
