What's New in Dauntless' "Call of the Void" Update?
The next major update for Dauntless, Phoenix Labs' free-to-play monster-hunting RPG, is almost here. Titled Call of the Void, the update will launch 11th June side-by-side on Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via the Epic Games Store). Just the rest of Dauntless, the content will be cross-platform enabled from day one. Check out the launch trailer above, and read on to find out more!
In a first for Dauntless, this latest update brings an evolving narrative component to the game. Throughout the weeks following Call of the Void's release, a story will unfold around players that will have lasting consequences on the game world. Phoenix Labs promises a "big surprise" in the story's climax that will lead into the next content update in July.
In addition, a new Escalation (Dauntless' challenging-but-rewarding enemy gauntlets) will join the existing lineup. Called Umbral Escalation, it tasks players with fighting behemoths that have been powered-up with the "dark umbral element". At the heart of it all is Thrax, a serpent-like boss creature. Defeating Thrax earns players schematics for unique weapons enabled with Thrax's distinct umbral portal ability. Umbral Escalation can be accessed from the in-game 'hunt' screen.
In line with most current games of its type, Dauntless provides players with a 'battle pass' equivalent full of challenges and rewards. Call of the Void launches alongside an all-new 'Relics and Ruins' Hunt Pass, offering cosmetics, items, bounty tokens and more. Finishing the Relics and Ruins Hunt Pass will give players the chance to earn Vault Coins, which can be used to purchase cosmetics from previous Hunt Passes.
Finally, this update brings a training area to Dauntless. In addition to providing players with an extensive move list and combat tips, the training area gives crucial stats on stats, weapon damage and effectiveness on each body part as players wield their weapons.
The Call of the Void update launches for Dauntless on 11th June for Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
