What Will Unstacking Cities Mean for Civilization VI?
With the 21st October launch of Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, we can expect to see a raft of new ways to play. One of these new game features is "unstacked cities". In Civilization V, you would queue up a build order, construct your buildings and they would then all live as one enormous stack within the city screen. With Civilization VI however that cluttered view is no more. This means that you have a much more granular control over your city. However, it means that you now have to consider district adjacency bonuses and what terrains around your city centre are compatible with certain Wonders.
The combat is also affected by this new system. As cities get larger and spread throughout the land, they also get more vulnerable. This gives your opponents the opportunity to attempt to attack your city's infrastructure to make you more susceptible to attack before going for the centre. Essentially, your city centre is just that now: the centre. The whole city must be considered when planning attacks and defence. Check out the handy video guide above to see the new system in action.
