Watch_Dogs Minigames Revealed
Players can now take a first look at the minigames in Watch_Dogs, Ubisoft's upcoming game of hacking and technological rebellion.
In the vein of Assassin's Creed, the main character Aiden Pierce can play a number of games and challenges around Chicago for some quick cash. Players can choose from seven different minigames and five "digital trips," which have no been revealed thanks to IGN:
Chess comes in two different styles in Watch_Dogs: normal chess and a puzzle version, which challenges Aiden to solve a half-completed game with only a limited number of moves and pieces. The chess puzzles come in different types (Survival, Capture, Path and End Game) and are ranked accordin to difficulty.
Drinking Games are exactly what they say on the tin; try to drink as much as possible and complete quick-time events to walk home with the prize. Perhaps the most straightforward, Slot Machines let players put in some of their cash, pull the lever and hope they get three in a row. Like real life, there's no real strategy to this, just dumb luck.
NVZN is an alternate reality game Aiden can play on his phone (even wanted hackers have time for game breaks, after all). In this game, aliens are attacking Chicago and players must destroy them as quickly as possible in a race against time. Meanwhile Cash Run is a Pacman-esque game where Aiden collects coins in an augmented reality environment while avoiding the ghosts that are trying to catch him and racing against the clock. Purple clocks give Aiden bonus time and a better time equals better payout.
A favourite of con artists everywhere, the Shell Game is the classic three cups and a ball trick. The dealer hides the ball under a cup then quickly slides them around; if you guess right, you win, so keep your eyes on the prize. Finally, Poker lets players challenge some "friends" to a game of Texas Hold 'Em, where Aiden can use cameras to sneak peaks at opponent's cards, and use his phone to monitor their heart rates and tell if they're bluffing. Or you could just play fair, but where's the fun in that?
Digital Trips are a different take on the minigame concept, which allow players to leave the reality of Chicago and enter one of five different lawless virtual realities. In the post-apocalyptic Madness, players run over demons and zombies with their car. Alone sets you in an empty downtown Chicago where Aiden must hide from ctOS robots while attempting to restore power.
In Spider Tank, players use an arachnid-style tank to cause destruction and mayhem. In Conspiracy, Cyborgs have infiltrated Chicago and Aiden must use his phone to discover them and find their weak points. Lastly, Psychedelic has players bouncing from flower to flower and scoring points by jumping through rings.
Watch_Dogs will drop May 27th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, and sometime in the near future for WiiU.
