Warframe's Old Blood Update Sets the Stage For Heavily Anticipated Empyrean Overhaul

Digital Extremes are continuing its efforts in supporting long running free-to-play shooter Warframe with this latest update: Old Blood. Bringing to the table a fearsome new enemy; exciting addition to the playable character roster; overhauled melee combat system; fresh gear and some reworked ability sets for existing Warframes.

Certain Grineer soldiers have been imbued with the power of Kuva, take one of them down, and they'll transform into something new and altogether more terrifying: The Kuva Lich. Like a Terminator, this enemy will track players far and wide, growing in strength and stopping at nothing to hunt down players across the Origin System. With a following of lowly thralls to track down and gather Intel from, finding the Kuva Lich's location won't be easy, so defeating it will certainly require more than landing a few lucky shots. Only the Parazon blade can end the Lich once and for all.

With such a relentless enemy to face, it's a relief to see a new Warframe enter the fray. Meet Grendel, an insatiably hungry beast who devours enemies and spits out a toxic bile to deal with distant foes. Grendel can also transform into a Samus Aran-esque morph ball and launch into unprepared opponents. Watch Grendel in action in the character trailer above.

Also given a revamp in Old Blood is the game's melee combat system. Heavy attacks, combos, juggle mechanics and manual blocking will accompany the existing player movesets to form what Digital Extremes describe as a "Symphony of destruction".

In addition to all of this, Warframe Titania will be receiving a Deluxe skin variant; Vauban and Ember have been revisited with reworked abilities and an array of shiny new gear will be available to unlock or purchase.

The Old Blood update will be coming to PC soon, with a console release planned a little further down the road.
