War Thunder Studio Announces New FPS Project
Gaijin Entertainment, the Russian developer responsible for the air combat MMO War Thunder, has announced a new WWII multiplayer first person shooter.
Named Enlisted, the new squad based FPS for PC is being developed by Darkflow Software studio, but will be published by Gaijin. Purposely dedicated to "the most important large scale World War II battles" -- which past history from Gaijin shows it always means "soviet glory" -- Enlisted will ship out with two campaigns encompassing the Battle of Moscow and the Battle of Normandy. Each campaign shall represent multiple phases of the battles and will allow you to play as specific characters and weapons relevant to the time period.
The game will also offer different game modes where players can fight alone or together with a platoon of soldiers in large scale battles featuring up to 100 combatants. The game's engine, Gaijin’s proprietary Dagor Engine, is marketed as being able to provide "a massive and richly detailed battlefield complete with destructible landscapes".
“Enlisted is an ambitious undertaking, unlike any game we have ever created. It will be a first person shooter decided by the fans, for the fans. They will have direct input into what we create, including things like campaigns, game modes, even which platforms after PC we will support,” said Alexander Nagorny, producer, Darkflow Software.
Gaijin Entertainment says it will reinvest all proceeds from Enlisted into developing additional maps, game modes and console versions, and their plan is to start developing the African campaign once the game generates $250,000 in sales. They are also taking a crowdfunding approach, promising to add more campaigns and gameplay features -- all chosen by players through online voting -- as each goal is reached. The console versions enter development when and if the game hits the one million dollars mark.
Enlisted launches its closed beta on PC in the second half of 2017, but pre-orders are obviously available now for each campaign, separately or as a bundle. Microtransactions are already implemented too, with "collector’s weapons" costing anything from U$6.99 to U$11.99 USD, and the weapon+campaign pack will set you back U$20-25. The biggest pack costs U$50 and includes both campaigns, three weapons, and early access to the beta -- which again, is planned to be on the late semester of 2017.
