Ubisoft's Upcoming Games Not Available on UK Version of Steam

In a move that surprised many, Ubisoft has announced that its upcoming AAA holiday release trio of Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 and The Crew will not be made available to buy on Steam in the UK.

Steam users from across the rest of the world will not be affected by the decision. Those in the UK wishing to purchase the games digitally will be forced to use a different download store, such as Ubisoft's own uPlay.

It is suspected the reason for this comes down to pricing. Assassin's Creed Unity is currently £49.99 on uPlay, while the most expensive retail games on Steam (non-special editions) sell for £39.99. This difference could be causing an issue for Valve and Ubisoft.

When speaking about the new Assassins Creed, Ubisoft said:

We’ve been in discussions with Valve about Assassin’s Creed Unity but for the time being the game is not available via Steam in the UK. In the meantime, UK customers wishing to purchase the game digitally can do so by visiting the Uplay store, our retail partners or other digital distributors
