Tripwire to Use Quixel Megascan Technology in "Enriching" Maneater's Underwater Environments
Tripwire Interactive's upcoming shark-based action RPG, Maneater, is almost upon us. The irreverent, carnage-filled chew 'em up has been confirmed to use Epic Games' Quixel Megascan technology to "enrich" the textures of the game's open underwater environments.
Starting as a baby bullshark, players will explore, destroy and feed their way to adulthood in the wide-open ocean environments that make up their domain—made all the more beautiful by Quixel Megascan's photorealistic textures. From "swamps and rivers to beachside resorts and the deep blue sea" neither man nor fish will be safe from your bloodthirsty jaws.
Andrew Kerschner, Lead Environment Artist at Tripwire, states that the technology has allowed his team to "reach a new level of quality" within the game's world. Coming off the back of Killing Floor 2, an equally irreverent game that also prizes its graphics (particularly in the realm of gore), it's clear that Tripwire is a studio that cares for the presentation of even its silliest games.
Maneater releases on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (via the Epic Games Store) on 22nd May. A Nintendo Switch release is planned for release later this year.
