Titanfall PC's Massive 49GB Install Due To Uncompressed Files
PC players have been astonished by the huge install size of Respawn's eagerly anticipated FPS, Titanfall. Whilst the Xbox One version clocks in at 17GB the PC version requires a whopping 49.99GB.
Apparently the reason for the difference is the presence of 35GB worth of uncompressed audio files. Respawn have decided to use uncompressed audio in the PC version to enable less powerful machines, specifically dual core based ones, to be able to run the game better.
According to Respawn the concern was:
A two-core machine would dedicate a huge chunk of one core to just decompressing audio.
- Respawn lead engineer Richard Baker
So they decided to use completely uncompressed audio in order to optimize performance for PCs on the lower end of the minimum specification requirement.
Titanfall is due to release on 14th March but the game is available to download and pre-install now.
