These Were the Most Searched Games on Google 2023

With 2023 running out at a rapid pace (with only a few weeks left at the time of writing), every company around the world is doing roundups. Google has partaken in this trend as well, featuring some of the most searched-for titles using their platform, which works as a great way to look back on all of the games released over the year.

In Google's Year in Search, the final section features the top five games searched for (or the top 10 once you press the ever-hidden button "show more"). Last year, videogames weren't featured, which is great news for the industry since it's now appearing as of 2023. Here are the games that were featured:

  1. Hogwarts Legacy
  2. The Last of Us
  3. Connections
  4. Battlegrounds Mobile India
  5. Starfield
  6. Baldur's Gate 3
  7. スイカ ゲーム
  8. Diablo IV
  9. Atomic Heart
  10. Sons Of The Forest

Upon further inspection, the entire list of games makes sense once you've started looking at them closer. While the top spot was taken by none other than one of 2023's most controversial titles, The Last of Us isn't trending because of the upcoming remaster for its sequel, but also because of the release of the TV show. This can be deduced by checking out the other sections, wherein the most googled TV show was The Last of Us, and the lead actor — Pedro Pascal, who played as Joel Miller — appeared in the top actors at #5. This would also coincide with the release of The Last of Us Part I on Steam for the first time, which gives Naughty Dog's release a massive boost over the year.

It's no surprise that the highly famous Baldur's Gate 3 managed to make it to the top list alongside the highly anticipated Diablo IV, but readers may be confused by スイカ ゲーム, but it may be more recognisable with its Western name — Suika Game, or Watermelon Game over on the Nintendo Switch. Regular watchers of Twitch and YouTube streaming or videos may recognise it from some of the most famous faces in the industry, checking it out and becoming an industry trend.

If you're interested in learning more about what sorts of things trended over the year, make sure you head over to Google's Year in Search to find other topics like top movies, top news, top people, and eve top passings of the year.
