The Witcher Getting Netflix Series
The Witcher saga has been a long-running series of novels from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and is now getting its very own Netflix series. It follows the story centring around a group of hunters known as Witchers, who have supernatural abilities to combat the deadliest of creatures.
Gamers will be more familiar with the Witcher video game series from CD Projekt Red, but Sapkowski had no part in creation besides allowing the team at CD Projekt Red to license his characters and world. This is where the Netflix series will, as they do, push the boundary to adapt the series in the manner Sapkowski envisioned. Serving as creative consultant, Sapkowski had this to say:
“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” He continued “I’m excited about our efforts together as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
The series is being produced by Sean Daniel, known for The Mummy franchise and The Expanse. Also involved is filmmaker Tomek Baginski, known for the animated short The Cathedral, and along with Jarek Sawko at the Polish visual effect studio Platige Image. What’s exciting is that Platige Image is also the team behind the CGI intros for The Witcher video games.
No word on casting or release date, but one thing is sure with Netflix behind the project it’s in the right hands.
