The Witcher 3 Switch Re-release Sitting Near Top of UK Charts
To say that people love The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is about as obvious of a statement as “water is wet”. Upon its release in 2015 it was met with near-universal praise, it went on to win more Game of the Year awards than any other release that year, and it’s still being talked about to this day, often being cited as one of the strongest releases in the past few years. This love has also translated to sales, with the recent Switch release of the game, titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition hitting the top five in the UK sales charts.
Specifically, the game has reached number four overall, with 96% of sales coming from the Switch version in particular. What’s more is that it managed to beat out Nintendo’s new release Ring Fit Adventure, which came in at number five. It should be stated however that the Switch port of The Witcher 3 released three days prior, giving it a noticeable advantage. Regardless, it’s impressive that a port of a four year old game with notable technical limitations managed to rank as highly as it did.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still continuing as the juggernaut seller for Switch however, beating both of these releases out sitting at the number two spot, just below Fifa 20, which often sees domination on these charts. Despite a mixed critical reception, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint sits at the number three slot, with the Switch edition of Minecraft occupying the sixth slot, proving that its popularity is still something to be noted.
Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Grand Theft Auto V and Borderlands 3 take up the seven through 10 slots respectively. With five out of the 10 titles being Switch games, the console is continuing its momentum strong, and it likely won’t lose much steam moving into the holiday season with other big exclusives being set to release for the system.
