The Pillars of Eternity Release Date Announced

After a little over two years, Kickstarter project Pillars of Eternity finally has a release date--26th of March. 

The announcement came from the game's Kickstarter page, where lead producer Brandon Adler gave backers an update on the project's progress. Now in its final stages, Obsidian Entertainment has also been showing their product off via Paradox Interactive's Twitch channel.

Pillars of Eternity is an isometric (3/4 view) click-to-move game that, as we found during E3, seems to hit just the right mix of nostalgia for the old Dungeons-and-Dragons style video games of yore. Combat occurs in real time, but players can pause to make tactical decisions and must balance their health and stamina bars to keep from being knocked out, or dying.

Launched as a Kickstarter under the title Project Eternity, the game is Obsidian's love letter to old-school Infinity Engine RPGs like Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment.  The studio has already made its mark on the RPG genre in the past with games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and more recently South Park: The Stick of Truth. 

Many of Obsidian's founding members also came from Black Isle Studios (which was closed in 2003 and reopened in 2012), which worked on Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and other notable titles in the genre. 

Pillars of Eternity will be available for Mac, Linux and Windows through Steam, GOG and other online distributors.
