The Last of Us Receives Stage Adaptation
After making the leap from one console generation to the next, The Last of Us has its leap to the stage--perhaps Naughty Dog is hoping to round out their mantel with a few Tony Awards.
Called The Last of Us: One Night Live, the theater adaptation will performed in Santa Monica, Los Angeles for--you guessed it--one night only on July 28th. Anyone hoping to see Clickers brought to life will have to remain satisfied with cosplayers, however, as One Night Live will not be The Last of Us: The Play. Instead, the adaptation will feature live readings of selected scenes from the game by the principal voice actors under the direction of Neil Druckmann, one of the game's co-directors. The play's goal is to "highlight the artistry behind The Last of Us," according to Geoff Keighley in his post on the PlayStation blog.
Voice actors Troy Baker (Joel), Ashley Johnson (Ellie), Merle Dandridge (Marlene), Hana Hayes (Sarah, Joel's daughter), and Annie Wersching (Tess) will be performing scenes, while the soundtrack's composer Gustavo Santaolalla will provide live accompaniment with selections from the game's score. While the team is being tight-lipped about how exactly it will all come together, Keighley promises a "very special evening" for those who managed to get the show's free tickets.
For the rest of the world, Naughty Dog will be streaming The Last of Us: One Night Live on Twitch, YouTube and PlayStation at 7pm PST/10pm EST/3am GMT on Monday, July 28th.
