The Last of Us Part II Spoilers Run Rampant as Game Leaks Online
Following the game’s indefinite delay from its scheduled May release date, key plot details and video clips from the highly anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive The Last of Us Part II have started to leak online en masse. While it can be easy to spread fake rumours for an upcoming game, the legitimacy of the leaked footage seems to be strong grounds for the rumour’s verification.
With the game being delayed due to “logistic issues” surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems probable that the game was on track in its development timeline for its scheduled May release, meaning that the title would have likely finished development by now, making it an opportune time for major story leaks.
While the source of these leaks is currently up in the air, there has been strong speculation that they came from a disgruntled Naughty Dog employee. It’s mostly conjecture at this point, but this may have something to do with the strenuous working conditions at Naughty Dog, as reported on by Kotaku last month.
Sony has so far been diligent in its response to pull down the original video leaks, but it seems that the fire has already spread, with countless social media users, videogame forum posters and Youtube channels already having access to the footage. Fans will have to keep on their toes in the leadup to the game’s eventual release to avoid these spoilers, and hopefully Sony will have a new release date set soon.
The Last of Us Part II is set to release exclusively for PlayStation 4, with a release date being unspecified.
