The Full Pokémon Sword and Shield Pokédex Has Leaked
During Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield’s E3 2019 Treehouse presentation, the game’s producer and long time Pokémon director Junichi Masuda announced to the disappointment of many fans that not every prior Pokémon would be returning in this instalment. This left fans pondering exactly how many Pokémon would be appearing in Sword and Shield, and a recent ResetEra leak has confirmed the exact number is 400.
While 400 may sound like a respectable number, this has caused a large upset within the fanbase, with many noting that the 2006 titles Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were able to include 493 monsters. This is also less than half of the total Pokémon that are currently in existence.
A post on Twitter reveals the specific Pokémon that will appear in Sword and Shield, which includes a total of 81 new Pokémon from the Galar region, and 13 new Galarian variants of previous Pokémon. There are a lot of surprising cuts on the list, with many popular Pokémon including every previous starter (bar the Charmander evolution line) being excluded from the game. While there has been vocal outrage from fans across the internet about the roster culling, time will tell if the new Pokémon will be enough to please players on their journey through the Galar region.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are set to release on 15th November exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
