The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward Remains Unsolved

The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward Remains Unsolved

Back on the 2nd of October, we reported that The Case of Charles Dexter Ward had hit Kickstarter to raise extra development funds. Alas, they have failed to hit their target and development has been shelved.

The developers make no bones about that fact that they set the bar high on this one, and that they also took some flack for starting a new crowdfund while Asylum was being finished.

Also, one of the truths that everyone has to face is the glory days of the likes of Wasteland 2 are over. Less than a third of the funds pledged came from within Kickstarter, the rest from external sources, compared with just over half being from Kickstarter for Asylum.

In a perfect example of the lunacy that is crowdfunding,  an update with a talking Charles which was extremely well received on social networks, resulted in a negative amount of income for that day.

Augustin Cordes has stated in his conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign that the campaign was a perfect storm of timing before the crunch on Asylum, and "the arrival of Cordes Jr in January 2015".

the current state of the game can be best summed up by the final paragraph of said post mortem on the Kickstarter campaign, which we reproduce for you here.

As for Charles Dexter Ward… Now is the moment to let go and submerge him in the depths of uncharted seas where strange star constellations are sometimes glimpsed on the darkest nights and alien things surface occasionally, putting him to rest in that sunken city of oddly angled shapes and ever-present slime where an abominable being awaits patiently and speaks to us in our deepest dreams. Time to fhtagn.
