System Shock 3 is No More
After several confirmed lay-offs at OtherSide, the developers of System Shock 3, in December 2019, more departures from the company make it all but certain that the highly anticipated game will not see the light of day.
An anonymous ex-member of the studio claims that the entire System Shock 3 team is now unemployed; in addition, the writer & director, lead programmer and design director have all confirmed their own departures from the company at various points in the last five months.
System Shock, the franchise that spiritually preceded BioShock and helped kickstart the immersive sim genre, is treated with reverence among many gamers. This long-awaited sequel had all the signs of living up to fan's expectations: Warren Spector, beloved industry figure was creative lead, reports spoke highly of the game and gameplay demos were promising. This news comes as a sad and shocking revelation to fans of earlier System Shock games and the struggling immersive sim genre as a whole.
