Sword of the Necromancer's Shadow of the Colossus Inspiration Revealed in Dev Diary
In the latest Dev Diary for its upcoming roguelike dungeon crawler, Sword of the Necromancer, developer Grimorio of Games explores the importance of the game's central relationship and how it was inspired by Shadow of the Colossus in crafting the game's story. Check out the full Dev Diary above.
In Sword of the Necromancer, bodyguard protagonist Tama is tasked with resurrecting priestess Koko, whom she failed to protect on her pilgrimage, by wielding the power of the Sword of the Necromancer and facing its creator in battle. As well as in numerous references throughout the game, the developer has channeled Shadow of the Colossus into its upcoming game in its thematic choice to have the protagonist journey alone. That means no friendly NPCs, no companions and no shopkeepers. Your only assistance will come from your foes themselves.
Later in the video, Game Designer Victor Pedreño explores how the game will delve into the backstory of Tama and Koko through fully-voiced flashbacks. He explains that this is where the team decided to diverge from Shadow of the Colossus, namely its ambiguity, and tell a more fleshed-out story.
Sword of the Necromancer releases on the 28th January for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
