SUPERHOT Kickstarter Secures 250% Funding
Unique first person shooter, SUPERHOT from developer SUPERHOT has managed to go above and beyond on crowdsourcing site Kickstarter, garnering an impressive $250,798 during it's run.
The project was originally asking for $100,000 but has proven highly popular and secured much more than that. In return for funding, backers had the opportunity to earn SUPERHOT rewards from a copy of the finished game via Steam all the way up to a mysterious SUPERHOT device. Nobody offered the $10,000 required to receive this reward but one person did pledge $2,000, earning themselves the chance to co-design an arena stage for the game, plus many other rewards.
SUPERHOT is a unique idea for an FPS game in that it offers a unique mechanic; when the player stops moving, so does time. This opens up the game into a puzzle game as much as a straight shooter in that movements can be planned and calculated to defeat enemies. It all adds up to a very cool The Matrix style experience including dodging bullets and, as one demo video shows, the opportunity to slice a bullet in half mid air. Very awesome. The small team developing the game hope to implement better visuals, more weapons and enemy types, a solid, story-driven single player campaign and, yes you guessed it, Occulus Rift support.
If you want to have a taste of this unique, and really quite tricky concept there is a prototype demo available on their website here.
