Super Mario Maker 2 Version 2.0 Releasing Today
Super Mario Maker 2 already offers an overwhelming amount of creative freedom when it comes to designing custom Mario courses, with enemies and mechanics that aren't even available in traditional Mario games becoming core tenants of the Mario Maker designer toolkit. Nintendo isn't satisfied with resting on its laurels however, it's announced that a collection of brand-new course elements will be coming in a 'Ver 2.0' update on 5th December —free for all players.
The most significant addition in the update merges The Legend of Zelda with Super Mario Maker: The Master Sword power-up. If placed in a level, this power-up will let players transform into the legendary hero of time, Link! Complete with a unique slash, dash and downward thrust sword attack; bow and arrow ability, with directional aiming; and placeable bombs to break blocks. Becoming Link in courses is more than a reskin opportunity, it introduces a range of new options for imaginative level designs and intricate puzzles to complete. That's not all in Ver 2.0 however, upon release players will also gain access to:
- Spike - An enemy who throws spiky balls at the player (ice balls in the snow theme).
- Pokey - The vertical, cactus/caterpillar hybrid enemy joins Mario Maker's ranks (watch them fly in the night-time theme).
- Frozen Coin Block - A coin block made of ice, thaws out when exposed to the Fire Flower, flame traps or the Angry Sun.
- Dash Block - When placed on the floor, it allows mario to dash at great speeds and leap greater distances. This also affects the speed of the Koopa Troopa Car.
- Ninji Speedruns - Compete against player's finish-times on Nintendo's own courses with Ninji "ghosts" representing other players' attempts. Prizes will be awarded to those who top the leaderboards!
