Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure Release Dated
Described by the publisher as a mix of Bomberman and a sports simulator, Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure is a fast-paced fantasy sports game, set in the chic '70s. It's a bonkers version of Dodgeball, everyone’s favourite way to get nosebleeds as a kid. With boss battles, random events and off-court hazards though, the game is totally unlike any game of Dodgeball we’ve ever seen.
The title begain life as part of the Nordic Game Jam back in 2013, scooping the award for being the most fun out of all the games on show. The success of their entry encouraged the team to develop the game further, fleshing out their prototype into a full blown release, and the result is this deceptively simple-to-play but difficult-to-master, twin stick controlled sport sim.
“From game jam to console – it’s been quite the ride,” says Jacob Herold, CEO and founder, Game Swing. “Whether it’s been at PAX or GDC, everyone who’s had the opportunity to play early builds of Stikbold! has enjoyed its accessibility, playability and sense of humour – comparing it to old school multiplayer games like Bomberman. We can’t wait to get it into the hands of console and PC players this April.”
The story mode can be enjoyed in single or co-op mode, and details Bjorn and Jerome’s quest to restore glory to their team – encountering all manner of weird and wonderful characters and scenarios along the way. Spread across five levels, each with multiple Dodgeball battles, it’s a beautifully-paced adventure lasting around three hours, with multiple playthroughs offering plenty of bonus unlockables.
But it’s not just a story based game. If you prefer yourself a bit of couch-based multiplayer, this is a game designed with that in mind. Grab up to three of your friends and have a blast throwing your balls at each other. The game will be published by Curve digital and hits PC on 1st April 1st, PlayStation 4 on the 5th April and Xbox One on 8th April. We will have an exclusive interview with the developers shortly so stay tuned to GameGrin.com for more news on this bonkers title.
