Steam Recording Beta Officially Releases to Public Build
After being in the Steam beta branch for four months, Steam Recording finally made it to public servers! Released on the 2nd of July 2024, the new feature arrived in beta, where players around the world could opt-in to have their game sessions recorded. If you want to learn more about those features, check out our piece on that when it was initially released right here.
A few quality-of-life improvements were added throughout the testing period, which users brought up as missing. These are some of the additions that have been implemented that weren't listed (such as the possibility to go to the screenshot folder from the images that was removed early on).
- Game-specific settings, which let you select which of three recording versions you want per game: recording duration, infinite recording (for as long as there is space in the hard drive), and do not record.
- Quick capture hotkey options
- Advanced export options, which let you select resolution, frame rate, bitrate, codec, and customise the file size for the items you're already exporting
- Session view, which lets you see all actions taken during a session, such as recordings and screenshots
There were a slew of other changes that made it to the live version, such as the highly requested feature to take screenshots as if you were in-game of the recording, making it easier to capture the perfect frame that you wanted.
The Steam Recording Beta is available now, and you can find it by heading to Steam > Settings > Game Recording, where you can personalise everything about your captures and output.
