Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition Delayed by Valve
The Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition is to be postponed for one week, Valve has just announced. Initially set to run from the 9th - 16th June, it will now take place from the 16th- 23rd June. While Valve has remained silent on the exact reasoning for this delay, it's assumed that the decision has been made in response to the global situation surrounding George Floyd's murder in Minneapolis at the hands of US police officers.
Valve joins the likes of Sony, Blizzard and EA in postponing events to make space for the most important voices to speak—assuming there isn't some alternative reason for Valve's decision. In addition, numerous companies have made statements in support of the "Black Lives Matter" movement and, notably, Rockstar's online services (Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online) were shut down for two hours on 4th June.
The Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition will go ahead on 16th June with (as far as we know) all the same demos, livestreams and developer interviews that were planned for the previous week.
