Starfield Minimum Specs & A Look at Its Possible Steam Deck Compatibility

Starfield is just around the corner, as those with the Premium Edition will only have to wait a few more days before the official early access pre-order release. For those who haven't, or those who are looking to learn a bit about the game's requirements, here are the recommended and minimum specs you can expect with Bethesda's brand-new IP.

  • MINIMUM:
    • OS: Windows 10 version 21H1 (10.0.19043)
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 125 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: SSD Required

These are the minimum requirements to run the game, meaning that those who have their PCs equipped with at least these graphics will be able to run the title. That said, there is no specification of whether this is for the 1080p resolution at the lowest graphics with 30FPS or 60FPS, so we're still a bit wary of the numbers at the current moment.

Meanwhile, the recommended specs will be the following:

  • RECOMMENDED:
    • OS: Windows 10/11 with updates
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Storage: 125 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: SSD Required

The recommended may be a bit steep for some who are looking at the 20-series NVIDIA GeForce RTX card or its AMD equivalent, though, once again, it isn't specified for which of the graphical options this is available. Considering the latest Bethesda title to release was long ago and Starfield is on a different scope altogether, we can't make any assumptions or estimates.

That said, these specs might be a bit indicative of the title's Steam Deck compatibility, as although we are yet to receive any confirmation on its state (hopefully between Playable or Verified), games with similar specs haven't performed the greatest. Those who want to play the game will also need to look at buying an extension if they own the 64GB model.

We'll hopefully learn more about the game closer to its release! Starfield is set to come out on Xbox Series X|S and PC on the 1st of September for Premium Edition owners and on the 6th of September for everyone else.
