Sony Refuse to Renew The Sponsorship with FIFA

The PlayStation developers, Sony have decided that they will not renew the contract with FIFA regarding their sponsorship due to expanding concern of corruption within the network. They are not the only organisation that are withdrawing from FIFA and raising their concerns.

The contract between Sony and FIFA reportedly expired on the 31st of November, according to Nikkei, which allowed Sony to pull away from the ever-growing scene. Before they removed themselves from the network of sponsors they were part of an eight year deal worth £222 million. 

Sony released a statement regarding the situation and said that they are "preferring to spend its money on completing structural reforms this fiscal year", whilst also commenting that the situation must "be investigated appropriately" and that they should pay more attention to "its principles of integrity, ethics and fair play."

FIFA has a collective of six major sponsors which are discussing their concerns about the situation, whereas one of the major sponsors, Emirates will be discontinuing their support with FIFA after their contract expires, the statement released by Emirates said: "following an evaluation of FIFA's contract proposal which did not meet Emirates' expectations." 

As well as Emirates and Sony pulling themselves from the backers network, the Coca-Cola company said that they were disappointed about the way they had handled a report in the bidding processes for the upcoming World Cups in Qatar and Russia. This may lead to doubts regarding their sponsorship with the company.
