Sony File Patent For Transforming Controller

A recent US patent filing from Sony has been spotted and although it may be far from an actual transformer it certainly looks interesting.

As you can see from the images below it appears to show a PS Move-like controller which has a modular basis allowing it to take on different shapes for different tasks.

It is described as having "blocks" that are swapped to change the look and feel of the controller.

In the present embodiment, multiple blocks are assembled or transformed, and the shape and position thereof are used as input values for information processing.

The images appear to show the controller taking on the shape of a handgun, rifle and knife utilising different combinations of blocks.

As a patent is a concept rather than a product we may never see anything like this come to life but it certainly looks interesting. Time will tell if this idea makes it to our shelves.
