Sony Confirm Last Guardian as Still in Development
In one of those funny stories where no news is actually the news, reports by IGN that Team Ico's in development title The Last Guardian was no more have been quashed by official sources within Sony who have confirmed that the long awaited game is still very much in production. Following IGN's initial report that came from sources at IGN Russia who had spoken to Sony about the game, Sony's very own VP of product development and Worldwide Studios, Scott Rohdes had this to say on Twitter;
@notaxation @yosp and I laughed at this rumor over dinner. The Last Guardian has NOT been cancelled.
— Scott Rohde (@RohdeScott) June 8, 2014
Despite Mr Rohde's comments it is easy to see how such a mix up could occur. The Last Guardian is on the way to becoming Sony's own Duke Nukem Forever, having been initially announced in 2009 with a release date of 2011 footage of the game was only released in 2012. Five years down the line and most of the news stories about the game have been about the lack of news stories about the game. Despite this many fans remain optimistic as the developer's fine pedigree which includes Ico and Shadow of the Colossus suggests that The Last Guardian may be something special when it is eventually released.
