Sonic Runners has Run its Course
The free-to-play mobile game Sonic Runners is being closed down. The game, created by Sonic Team, was an attempt to mix the traditional 2D Sonic the Hedgehog gameplay with that of an endless runner, and make some money by selling microtransactions in the process. Sadly, the game hasn't been as successful as was hoped and the service is shutting sown with effect from the 27th of July.
The sale of Red Star Rings, the game's purchasable currency that can be exchanged for bonus items such as power ups, has already ceased ahead of the game's closure. Any Red Star Rings already purchased but not spent can still be spent up until the game closes, but refunds are not being offered.
"Since launch, the Sonic Runners Team has done its best to provide our users with the most enjoyable play experience possible. It is with great regret that we announce the closure of Sonic Runners...We would like express out most sincere thanks to all our users for their patronage and support."

I wasn't even aware that this had launched... And I wrote about it's announcement!

Me neither. It actually looks quite good fun as well.
