Skyrim Special Edition's System Requirements Revealed

Skyrim Special Edition's System Requirements Revealed

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition has gone gold and Bethesda have revealed the final system requirements for the anticipated remaster, Unsurprisingly it requires a bit more power than the 2011 original.

The remaster is a considerable visual overhaul of the original bringing with it redone art and effects, volumetric lighting, dynamic depth of field and new snow and water shaders.

As well as the upgraded graphics it also incorporates the move to a 64-bit engine, the same one used in Fallout 4, which should bring much needed stability to the game, well known for it's propensity to crashing. Especially when heavily modded on PC.

Speaking of mods, console owners will also get to play around with some of the craziness PC users have been for the last few years as it also has mod support on Xbox One and, as Bethesda announced last week, in a more restricted form on PlayStation 4.

Due to the upgrades the PC system requirements have also taken a leap with the game requiring the following:

Minimum

  • Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit)
  • Intel i5-750/AMD Phenom II X4-945
  • 8GB RAM
  • 12 GB HDD Space
  • NVIDIA GTX 470 1GB / AMD HD7870 2GB

Recommended

  • Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit)
  • Intel i5-2400 / AMD FX-8320
  • 8GB RAM
  • 12 GB HDD Space
  • NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB / AMD R9 290 4GB

They also revealed how much space is required for those planning on getting it on console:

PlayStation 4
20 GB (North America)
33 GB (Europe)

Xbox One
17 GB (North America)
25 GB (Europe)

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is due for release on the 28th October on PC/Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for £49.99/$59.99. PC owners who own the original release and all it's DLC will get a free upgrade to the Special Edition.

Yeah, the recommended specs are actually slightly below Fallout 4's recommended specs on PC which is interesting. Really looking forward to having an excuse to play through Skyrim again!
