Sinclair ZX Spectrum Making a Comeback
The ZX Spectrum was the pinnacle of home computing when it was released in 1982. Allowing users to program their own games right there on the built-in keyboard was something that many people decided to do. That's why there are thousands of titles, yet even Wikipedia can't list them all.
But you can soon play 1,000 of them, when the ZX Spectrum Vega is released in a few months.
The Vega is the result of a successful (and still active) Indiegogo campaign. They currently have a production run of 1,000 devices planned, with 3,000 more to follow before a retail run.
It's basically a ZX Spectrum emulator built into a joypad you hook up to your television. It comes pre-loaded with 1,000 titles, though the list of those has not been finalised. It will have an SD card, so you could even load more onto it. And with Ocean Software having been merged with the now-bankrupt Atari, they can't stop you downloading 1988's Robocop even if you dared try.
You can get in on the 3,000 run of Vega's if you pay the £25 tier at Indiegogo, then you're guaranteed to be able to buy one for £100.
Once it hits retail around June, we expect the price won't be too different, but you will miss out on having everyone see your name scroll past while they're choosing which version of Pool to play.
